Understanding Ramp

Introduction to meCash Ramp APIs

Ramp is our user-friendly feature that allows you to seamlessly manage, exchange, and transfer digital assets from one currency to the other.

Ramp is currently divided into two main categories:

  1. Cryptocurrency: In this category, you can manage your crypto assets directly. It enables you send crypto from your meCash wallets to other crypto wallets and withdraw crypto to other wallets or exchanges.

  2. Off-Ramp: This category is for converting digital assets to fiat money.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to fund and withdraw from your Ramp wallet.

Networks and Tokens

Before funding your account, it's important to understand these key concepts:

  1. Networks: These are blockchain ecosystems where transactions occur. Ramp supports:
  • Polygon (specifically Polygon Amoy testnet): A layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum that offers faster and cheaper transactions

  • Ethereum: The original smart contract blockchain.

  1. Tokens: Digital assets that exist on these networks. At meCash we support:

meCash currently supports the following:

TokenSymbolNetwork(s)Type
USD CoinUSDCPolygon, EthereumStablecoin (ERC-20)
TetherUSDTPolygon, EthereumStablecoin (ERC-20)
PolygonMATICPolygonNative Token
EthereumETHEthereumNative Token

  • Important warnings:
    • Only send the currency that matches the wallet's currency you want to fund. e.g USDC to USDC wallet only.
    • Other assets sent will be lost permanently.
    • Ensure you're sending from a Polygon-compatible wallet.

Important Notes

  1. Network Compatibility: Always ensure the sending and receiving networks match (e.g. Polygon to Polygon).
  2. Token Standard: Only send ERC-20 standard USDC tokens.
  3. Address Verification: Double-check the wallet address before sending funds.
  4. Transaction Times: Polygon transactions are typically fast (a few minutes), but may vary based on network congestion.

⚠️ WARNING: VERIFY THE RECIPIENT ADDRESS

Blockchain transactions are irreversible. Ensure the recipient address is correct, belongs to the person you intend to pay, and is on the correct network. Funds sent to a wrong address cannot be recovered.

3. Add Optional Information (If Required)

  • Destination Tag / Memo: Some exchanges require this to identify your deposit. Always include it if provided by the recipient.
  • Alias: Save and label the address for easy future use (e.g., "My Exchange Account").

4. Add Optional Details

  • Destination Tag: Required for some exchanges/institutions.
  • Alias: Assign a name for future reference.

5. Verify Transaction Details

Transaction Details

  • Confirm recipient address and alias.

8. Submit Transaction

  • Click Continue to broadcast to Polygon network.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How long do transactions take?

  • Transactions on the Polygon network are typically confirmed within a few minutes. Ethereum transactions can take longer, depending on network congestion.

2. What happens if I send funds to the wrong address or network?

  • Due to the decentralized nature of blockchains, transactions are final and irreversible. Unfortunately, meCash cannot recover funds sent to an incorrect address or network. This is why it is critical to double-check all details before confirming a transaction.

3. What are "Gas Fees"?

  • Gas fees are payments made to network validators to compensate them for the computing energy required to process and validate transactions on the blockchain. This fee goes to the network, not to meCash.

4. Why is a Destination Tag/Memo important?

  • When you send funds to a large platform like a centralized exchange, they often use a single main wallet for all customer deposits. The Destination Tag or Memo is a unique identifier that tells the exchange which specific account to credit. Forgetting it can lead to significant delays in accessing your funds.
